Human hippocampal ripples tune cortical responses based on predicted uncertainty

Using direct recordings from the human brain, Frank et al. show that hippocampal ripples increase ahead of unpredictable events and tune the visual cortex to respond faster and more strongly to surprising stimuli that follow.
